Description

In August 1972 Ugandan President Idi Amin demanded the exodus of all Ugandans of Asian descent. Within ninety days, approximately 50,000 Ugandans were forced to leave Uganda and seek asylum elsewhere, many in Canada. We learn more about Ugandan Asian Resettlement and hear firsthand accounts of this defining time in Canada’s history. Using the event as an example of immigration and resettlement to Canada, we explain the immigration process, the points system, explore the challenges, and how immigration policy has evolved over time.
